Frequently Asked Questions
BS EN ISO 9001:2008 - BS EN ISO 14001:2004 – BS OHSAS 18001:2007
Q. How much will it cost?
A. This depends on the factors mentioned above. When we have visited your premises and confirmed your requirements we should be able to give you a fixed price. Again, as a very rough guide, we recently quoted a Sole Proprietor of a small engineering company £2,450 for a documented Quality Management System. We also quoted an electronics company with 30 employees £3,800 and a security company with 70 employees £4,250 to assess their requirements, carry out training and produce the documentation required to satisfy the requirements of BS EN ISO 9001:2008.
Environmental Management Systems and OHSAS Management Systems are significantly more complex, time consuming and costly.
A formal Document Review and Site Assessment must be carried out before finalising the work required. Both the Document Review and Site Assessment are chargeable.
Q. How much extra time should we allow to operate our Quality Management System following implementation?
A. A well-written and properly implemented Quality Management System should not take up more than a few hours every week. In addition, you will need to carry out periodic Management Reviews and Internal Audits. Management Reviews are held on average twice per year and in a small company take 2-3 hours maximum. Internal Auditing varies depending on the number of Procedures to be audited, the complexity of the Procedures and the competence of the Internal Auditor/s.
Q. I know companies who have a Quality Management System that they do not understand. Why does this happen?
A. Many parts of BS EN ISO 9001:2008 are intentionally written to allow for flexibility of interpretation. Unfortunately, many of the organisations who write Quality Manuals and Procedures tend to interpret the requirements in the most complicated way possible. Worse, many use pre-written templates that may be unsuitable for your Company and its activities.
We will only produce a Quality Management System that reflects your Company’s existing activities. This means that if there is any part of your Quality Management System that you do not understand then that part of the system itself must be wrong and we will correct this. Quality Management Systems do not have to be complex. Every one of your employees should be able to understand your Quality Manual, Procedures and documentation.
